Physical Comedy

Patrick Donnelly

Are you funny? The answer is yes!

What is funny? Comedy is the most challenging genre of performance, because the successes and failures are so immediate: the audience either laughs or it doesn't.

This class will explore proven physical exercises and hysterically stupid games to unleash your inner physical comedian. We will play with status, stillness, stealing and giving focus, vulnerability, and truth, using techniques from Clown, Improv, and Theater. You will appreciate the unique power of your stage presence, increase your ability to connect with an audience, and gain a deeper trust in your instincts, in a supportive class setting.

This class is for actors, acrobats, dancers, and other experienced performers (inspired amateurs welcome). This training is extremely useful for act creation and auditioning, and for understanding the power of humor even in “serious” performance. Minimum physical ability required (you should be comfortable with standing and moving around the studio; expertise in acrobatics not required). For adults (18-up)

BYOS (bring your own stupid) and a willingness to play.
